Who Says Backpacks Are Only For Weekends?

Casual-Smart is made for a reason. So let’s use it! It has been a long time since the formal, old-school corporate look has merged with casual style. Even if you still work with a strict dress-code at office there are still some ways to break ( or let’s say ‘’bend’’) the rules silently.

First rule: If you are allowed not to wear a tie, you are allowed to wear anything. Just not sweatpants or a dirty t-shirt; but backpacks are ok. It’s the urban sophistication. There are many sleek & stylish backpacks you can wear to work. It can be practical, comfortable and chic if you get your choice right.

Here are some tips to make it work:
  • Keep your fabric choice high: Try leather or leather-like fabrics, sued, or canvas with leather details.
  • Keep it solid and muted colours such as black, grey, or beige. Navy is cool too.

Summer Trends & Tips for Men (SS15)

Casual smart, sports luxe and streetwear influences dominating menswear industry trends for a while, bermudas and other sports-inspired shorts have become the best friends of men during summer.

If you’re into bermudas – which you must by the way - you’ll want shoes that offers the same degree of comfort and breathability.

Trainers have been in any time of our lives from office look to daily/weekend look thanks to luxury designer takes and technical runners to slip-on canvas plimsolls and even hi-tops, it goes without saying that the humble sneaker is an ideal match for jersey shorts which we may not agree with in some levels.  Sandals are our second favourite.

  •         Denim shorts + slipons or not chunky sneakers √
  •      Chino shorts + sandals + slipons √

Tips:
  • If you’re a shorter gentleman, go with nothing above ankle height or sandals, which will combine to produce the illusion of height and longer legs. When it comes to your shorts, go for a pair that finishes around mid-thigh or give the hems a couple of folds to emphasize leg length.
  • On the other hand if you have long legs go with footwear styles that have a slightly higher profile. Desert and chukka boots, along with slightly chunkier trainers, brogues and Derbies, would be ideal. Similarly, your shorts should finish on or just above the knee.

#ShoePorn for Men!

Shoe addiction may seem like just for women but this is not true. Even if it’s true that means women look at your shoes and criticize your taste. Either way you have to be careful and selective as a men when it comes to shoes.
Men shoes have an informal look for Spring 2014, but are yet very stylish. If you are a conservative guy in means of style try the ones with laces.  One of the hottest trends in men’s shoes for the season are the solid soles, decorated with metal elements or unexpected colours. But I – personally- don’t like metals in men’s shoes unless they are just for decoration. The most popular models of men’s designer shoes for the spring of 2014 are moccasins, loafers, slippers and chukkas. Smooth leather, suede and nubuck keeps their ranking in fashion. You will also find that reptile skin and reptile skin imitations are another popular choice of material for men’s shoes. Combinations of materials with different textures are also possible.

My DO’s
  • Loafers (just for a business look)
  • Sandals & flip flops with Bermudas
  • Trainers (always)
  • Chukkas

My DON’Ts
  • Reptile Skin
  • Too much metal elements
  • Pointy-toed shoes
  • Flip flops with boot cut jeans

Vibrant colours, like cobalt blue, emerald green and cherry are another popular trends in men’s shoes for this season. Of course, the traditional colours like black and brown are not excluded. You can also try floral prints for espadrilles too (Which I like a lot!)

Here is the editor’s pick (which is me in this case) for shoe shopping!

RIPPED JEANS: 5 REASONS YOU SHOULD TRY

Take on the latest denim trend set to go big this summer
Words By Chantelle Symester via TopManMagazine

  1. DON'T GO OTT You needn't look like you've been dragged at 50mph down the road by your jeans nor should you opt for the 'shabby chic' - read hobo look (we promise you, it doesn't look good). The great thing about Topman's latest ripped jean's range is that there are just enough slits and rips to make it look cool rather than try hard or just plain wrong.

  2. SMARTEN IT UP You needn't look like you've been dragged at 50mph down the road nor should you opt for the hobo look (it doesn't look 'shabby chic' btw). Adding some ripped jeans to a relatively smart outfit will work because you are balancing out each element. We like the idea of teaming yours with a nice fresh shirt and this drop shoulder coat.

  3. STAY UP ON THE TRENDS The distressed look is making a comeback this season and these subtle knee slits on these spray on style jeans will make sure you are way ahead of the curve. (Plus it'll be extra ventilation when it gets a bit hotter).

  4. DARK DENIM= SUBTLE Still too shy to try - work with a darker colour which will tone the look down.

  5. ADD SOME DETAIL TO DRESSED DOWN ATTIRE When your simple everyday attire needs a bit of a life why not throw on some ripped spray ons? It's an easy, instant update and pretty much a no-brainer.

7 Questions To Understand More About Men's Formal Wear

Interview with Lewis Watson, Sales Manager of FormalTailor.co.uk

Simple is one of the most difficult thing to do when it comes to fashion and style. Pulling off a simple look in a fashionable way is even more difficult. On street styles or casual wear you don’t have to deal with “simple and stylish” all the time but when it comes to formal wear the struggle begins.
Either it’s a ‘black-tie optional’ or a “Black Tie” dress code, being prepared before hosting, attending, or accompanying someone to an event is key to success.
Pulling off a trendy and stylish look in a formal wear can be tricky sometimes. Ties seem out of the picture and accessories becomes more and more important in these days.

Lewis Watson, Sales Manager of FormalTailor.co.uk, shares his expertise and thought for gentlemen about formal wear 2014. Apparently skinny ties and velvet jackets are on trend.

FormalTailor specialise in men's formal wear for all occasions, whether you're attending a wedding, attending the latest shirt and tie event or you're simply adhering to your formal dress code at work, FormalTailor can cater to all your clothing needs. They also provide all the necessary accessories to complete your look, such as wedding waistcoats, men's cravats, bow ties, formal trousers and even top hats.

Which, how, with what?

  • TrendHimUK: What is the most essential thing in men's formal wear?
Lewis Watson: In my opinion, a really good fitting Jacket is the most essential part of men. The reason for this is that the Jacket is the main focal point of where the eyes are draw to from a slight distance.
  • TH: What is the most common mistake made in men’s formal wear?
LW: The most common mistake made in men’s formal wear is, the groom often wears colours matching the bridesmaids, when in fact, he should match the bride and the rest of gentleman should match the bridesmaids. The reason for this is so that when the bride and groom are photographed together they match in perfect harmony.
  • TH: Can you tell us top 3 trends in 2014 for men's formal wear?
LW: The three biggest trends for 2014 are Slim-fitting Jackets, Skinny leg suit trousers & Velvet Jackets have also really began to take off recently for gentleman who want to look that extra bit sharper.
  • TH: What is your favourite piece in your collection for this season?
LW: It’s hard to decide upon a favourite piece in our collection for this season as we have the largest range of ties & cravat colours available in the UK. That being said, we do have brighter colours in currently including a sangria colour which also has a matching pocket square that looks amazing.
  • TH: Any other colourful pieces or are we going to see just black and grey in 2014 as usual?
LW: A Maroon Dinner Jacket looks really classy and especially when finished with real satin lapels is very stylish.
  • TH: Ties seem out of fashion lately. What's your opinion?
LW: Whilst ties do seem to be less fashionable recently, Skinny Ties are definately more popular than ever before especially as they look just as good with black tie or wedding clothing also. Personally we think these are better for young men.
  • TH: What are the trendy accessories in formal wear?
LW: The trendy accessories for men’s formal wear currently are skinny ties instead of bow ties for the tuxedo look, which definately seem to be on the rise. When tied with a good size knot they can look just as smart as a traditional bow tie. As we can see in the media, in particular Pharrell Williams, the bow tie is also a trendy accessory as shown in his more recent music videos.
