Autumn/Winter 2013 Favourites – Top 10 Wardrobe Essentials for Men

It’s not getting cold. It is cold.

I wonder if we have a transition with Autumn or go directly into winter. In both cases your wardrobe must be ready; transition from t-shirts to long sleeve shirts and knitwear. Flip flops will be put in a box and boots are coming out. The best thing of climate change is to shop for the new season! :) (Women talking)
I always think Autumn as the comfort season. The only uncomfortable thing is about Autumn is that you have to carry a light jacket or a jumper with you during the day in order to wear it at night. Anyway...

I won’t hesitate to say that this is a list of “essentials” because if you are a guy who cares about his style and look there are some ‘must have’ outfits for this season.

First of all I have to remind you that grey, Emerald green and burgundy are THE colours for AW 2013.

We have seen furs a lot on runways at fashion weeks but if they have asked me before I would have warned them not to.

Top 10 Wardrobe Essentials (that I think a man should have for AW 2013)

1. Trench Coat. – Trench coats are essentials for in-between seasons. The classic trench coat style is a double breasted khaki number, made famous by Burberry. You can also have a leather one to follow the leather madness for this season.

2. Boots. I do like hiking boots, biker boots and chukka boots. According to TopMan style lessons, Brogues are still a big trend and work well with trousers of all fits. Loafers look best with slim fit trousers since they are traditionally narrower in style. Wear suede with chinos and bright socks for a contemporary twist.

Boots from RiveIsland: £70

3. Chinos and flannel trousers. No matter if you wear short or long boots turn ups or cuffed trousers are the way to display you shoes which are the primary signal of a stylish person. Chinos and flannel trousers are on trend this season; just don’t forget  the turn ups. The colours grey, khaki, and burgundy are the ones you may choose. Also – if you haven’t heard it yet - camo has officially travelled from the runway to the streets. Jeans are timeless for any kind of fashion so feel free for jeans. I also do like pleated trousers but if I were you I would wear them only in black or grey.

Chinos from Next: £20
4. Leather jackets and accessories. Leather is a high trend on this season and it’s not just for jackets. A pair of leather gloves is a must for your wardrobe too.

5. Colourful coats. When it’s cold the only thing people see on streets are coats. Whatever the weather, be fashionably prepared with stylish coats & jackets. That doesn’t mean that you should wear a neon pink one but try to be away from black for a while. Mustard, Navy, and red can be useful for a trendy look. Also burgundy is another runway trend colour for outwear.

6. Braces. I love accessorizing a style. If you don’t accessorise your style, you are just a copycat because accessorize let’s you shout your fashion sense. It’s an easy way for a trendy look. Last year we saw some braces but we will see it more this year. It’s a little bit tricky though. If you don’t use braces correctly you may look silly. My suggestion is braces should be used in a style without a hat. Keep that in mind.

Braces are easy to find almost every store. My favourite ones are mostly from Ralph Lauren.

7. Hats. – If you are not a hat person at least try beanies!  Trapper hats are cool too.

8. Statement carves and snoods. Do not hesitate to go big as blankets or twisted up and knotted tight.

9. No roll neck jumpers. V-neck maybe. Shawl and Crew Neck for sure. Besides the plain jumpers you may also try striped, textured and cable knits. On the other hand monochrome is on trend. Plain jumpers that will fit perfectly over a shirt and tie combo, and will be a stylish addition to wear with a suit. I’ve always liked ‘layer on layer’ trend so jumper over a shirt would be my first choice. Grunge and oversize jumpers are popular for AW 13 too. It’s also said that animal prints are for AW 13 but not my favourite.

10. Messenger bags & Backpacks. I’m not a fan of bags (Shoulder bags) when it comes to menswear but messenger bags and packbacks seem reasonable and good; also on trend.

For men bags I would go with Bally.

Men @ London Fashion Week - Harry Styles was the star!

Another London Fashion Week set up at Somerset House full of celebrities & models overseas, and apparently Harry Styles, taking a front-row seat at the Fashion East show in the Topshop space, was the star of the week! Wherever you click he is there. I don't complain...

I loved his patterned t-shirt and black skinny jeans but I can't say the same things for his leopard t-shirt...

While Harry Styles was making his appearance Burberry Prorsum became another star of the week.
It was hard to find men styles during the week because as always women were everywhere :p

Diego Vanassibara, A Brand and A Designer You Should Know About (Interview)

Before London Fashion Week starts let’s have a flashback of London Collections: Men on Jan 2013. It was a brilliant time for anyone interested in men’s fashion.

Diego Vanassibara
DiegoVanassibara, shoe designer, has launched his collection at London Collections: Men 2013. The shoes that I love even as a woman. (I have written this many times before; when it comes to shoes & women it's not just an obsession for women shoes)
He says that he has received fantastically positive response from the visitors - as I could easily guess. One of his most famous statement is: "I design shoes for men to admire, wear and be admired.  After all, they have the right to dream too."

I asked for an interview with him and my first question was if he is going to attend the coming up LFW or not. Apparently he won’t.
But this is not an excuse for us not to have a look at his designs.

Vanassibara grew up in South Brazil, moved to the UK at the age of 22. He has a degree and a diploma from Cordwainers in footwear design and product development.
He is known as a designer who uses new concepts, materials, crafts and construction to produce a beautiful collection of shoes.

For those of you interested in smart but stylish shoes that will last you a long time, then Diego Vanassibara is a brand and designer you should know about.  In my opinion Diego’s designs offer a perfect balance between a classic shoe and fashion forward design. Retailing between £500-£900 they can be called as an investment for style! :)

When I asked him about the men fashion on AW13/14 he said that he doesn’t approach seasons as a "one off statement". He doesn’t want to create shoes that are highly recognisable by being from a determined season because they get dated very easily. “What I have introduced in the season, and that is something that will continue being part of the brand in terms of concept, is a modern approach to craftsmanship combined with a quite technical, engineered design” says Vanassibara.

Key SS14 trends: "Raw edges, matt/supple finishes and leathers, use of modern canvas as details, monochrome, light soles with a robust look."

The design has double leather sole with an understated platform, also in leather, which adds height with balance and proportion.

His ideal client is an informed and urban man with a contemporary and individual attitude to dressing. He values honest products and excellent craftsmanship. He has a keen eye for aesthetics and is discerning enough to follow his own style and taste, but he is open to being a little bit adventurous, in particular with shoes and accessories. He enjoys being noticed, but is not an attention seeker.

“If the act of just imagining an accessory or a garment count, then I had a whole wardrobe designed in my head at the age of 8. In fact, a Brazilian journalist once even wrote a story about my "imaginary wardrobe.”
