Butter yellow is having a moment. Soft, warm, and quietly luxurious, it has taken over the Spring/Summer 2025 runways and A-list wardrobes. “Butter yellow is easy to style because it pairs well with both saturated colours and other lighter pastel colours,” says personal stylist Dasy Gillespie, who suggests wearing the shade with jeans, according to Forbes article. The colour has been owned by a lot of star power: Timothée Chalamet at the Oscars, Sabrina Carpenter wearing the colour a lot on tour, etc. 

As the weather starts to warm up, our clothes naturally follow the transitioning from deep merlots and chocolate brown to softer shades. “As we welcome a lighter, softer palette to our wardrobes for spring, buttery yellows bring a sunny warmth to outfits,” says Linda Cui Zhang, associate fashion director at Nordstrom. It's giving the simplicity, elegancy, and the freshness that spring is all about. To me, it's like wearing a garden full of daisies! Butter yellow is also practical as far as shopping and wearability goes. “There’s versatility in the color. Yellow feels fresh and serves as a pop to foundational neutrals like brown, navy, and gray. It brings energy when mixed with pastels such as soft pink and light blue,” adds Zhang.

According to GQ, men's and women's colour trends orbit each other but don't land at quite the same time. Not this year! This spring, designers across the binary are dishing up buttery yellow basics to help you match those blooming daffodils and buttercups in your neighbourhood. As many stylists say you can pair a butter yellow jumper with jeans or butter yellow jeans with a white shirt and a brown jumper. It’s what you wear with them that counts.
