And Then Came Carolyn Bessette...

From Kardashians to Princess Diana: A Shift We’ve Been Waiting For

I think the Kardashian era is over. Finally.

People — especially Gen Z — are becoming more conscious about who they are, how they want to look, what they choose to support, and what they spend their money on. And that genuinely makes me happy. The saying “in a world of Kardashians, be Diana” finally feels like it’s coming to life.

Why do I say that? Because I can see the shift. Conversations are slowly moving towards real people — being natural, accepting yourself, prioritising health over appearance. People who once embraced fillers are now openly talking about reversing them. Lips and hips are becoming more… human again. The era of oversized lashes feels like it’s fading. Natural, wavy and curly hair is being embraced morenot everyone feels the need to straighten it anymore. Quiet luxury is becoming louder. These changes started a few years ago, but now they feel stronger, more visible.
And then there’s the recent American Love Story: JFK Jr. & Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy series on Disney+, which almost feels like the final push behind this shift. Carolyn Bessette’s understated, minimal and effortless style — the kind that doesn’t try too hard or shout for attention — has clearly struck a chord again. It feels like the 90s aesthetic has come full circle, but this time with a deeper appreciation.

I’ve always loved minimalism and simplicity, but this feels like something bigger than that. It’s the 90s, but evolved — with a deeper awareness of global issues, sustainability, health, and ultimately, our own sense of self-worth.

Gen Z is reminding all of us what really matters. Yes, as millennials we often criticise them — say they’re lazy, that they don’t want to work, that they prefer staying at home. But maybe that’s not the full story. Maybe they simply know their value, and they’re not afraid to ask for it.

I didn’t really sit down to write a structured piece. I just needed to get this out of my system. No proper conclusion, no neat ending — just thoughts.

But I do hope we continue to appreciate what we’re becoming, with this new generation shaping things in their own way. They might have more to teach us than we think

Love from me :)
